Alert Details

At 700 PM MDT, Although rainfall rates have decreased significantly, a risk of flash flooding continues across the warned area as runoff persists from earlier storms. Between 1.25 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen with additional rainfall amounts up to 0.25 inches possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Pueblo Pintado, Ojo Encino and Nageezi. This includes Highway 550 between Mile Markers 74 and 79...and between Mile Markers 108 and 122.

Recommended Action

Do not enter or cross flowing water or water of unknown depth. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
